Mirerza González-Vélez Biography

 

Mirerza González-Vélez's teaching and research interests focus on the cultural and social role of communication and media outlets in the production and representation of imagined communities. She is especially interested in the cultural and critical aspects of Spanish media discourse. González-Vélez holds a PhD. in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Iowa and an M.A. in Communication and a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Puerto Rico. At the present time, she teaches conceptual and hands-on courses in communication, such as communication theory, intercultural communication, organizational communication, and public speaking.

Nadjah Ríos Villarini Biography


Nadjah Ríos Villarini received her Ph.D. and MA in Linguistic Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras from the College of Liberal Arts. Currently she is an Assistant Professor in the English Department at General Studies, UPR. Her academic interest is oriented to issues of language and power, language attitudes and language planning in Puerto Rica and the Caribbean. She offers courses and graduate seminars at the Linguistic Graduate Program and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Puerto Rico.
 


Nadjah Ríos Villarini recibió su grado de Doctorado y Maestría en Antropología Lingüística de la Universidad de Texas en Austin. Obtuvo su Bachillerato en Literatura en la Facultad de Humanidades en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras. En estos momento se desempeña como Catedrática Auxiliar en el Departamento de Inglés de Facultad de Humanidades. Sus interese académicos giran entorno a temas de planificación y actitudes lingüísticas y lenguaje y poder. Ofreces cursos y seminaries graduados en el Departamento de Sociología y Antropología y el Programa Graduado de Lingüística de la Universidad de Puerto Rico.
